According to the statistics of Statistic Bureau in Costa Rica, its volume of goods trade was USD10.51 billion from January to May in 2016, up 2.7% year-on-year (the same below). Exports grew by 3.9% to USD4.20 billion, and imports grew by 1.9% to USD6.31 billion. The trade deficit was USD2.11 billion, down 1.9% from last year.

In May, Costa Rica’s volume of goods trade grew by 2.8% to USD2.15 billion. Exports grew by 0.2% to USD0.87 billion and imports grew by 4.6% to USD1.28 billion. And the trade deficit grew by 15.0% to USD0.41 billion.

Since January to May, bilateral trade volume between Costa Rica and China fell by 2.5% to USD0.77 billion. Costa Rica’s exports to China were USD27.77 thousand, down 26.5%. It accounted for 0.7% of Costa Rica’s overall export, down 0.2%. And Costa Rica’s imports from China reached USD0.74 billion, down 1.6%. It accounted for 11.7% of Costa Rica’s overall imports, down 0.4% over the previous year. Costa Rica’s trade deficit with China barely changed to USD0.71 billion.

China was the 21st export market of Costa Rica and its second largest source of imports just after the U.S. up to the end of May in 2016.
